How to import a CSV file
For any broker or exchange Allown doesn't connect to yet: download your trades as a CSV file and Allown turns them into holdings. You check every row before anything is saved.

What you need
- An export of your trades (or of what you hold) from your broker
- A few minutes
Step by step
Download your history from the broker
Most brokers and exchanges have it under History, Statements, Reports or Export. Choose CSV (sometimes called a spreadsheet or Excel export).
A CSV file is a plain table: one row per trade, columns separated by commas.
Got an Excel file (.xlsx)? Open it and save it again as CSV.
Check it has the columns Allown needs
One row per trade (or per holding) with at least these columns. The names don't matter; you point Allown at them in a moment.
Setting Choose Ticker AAPL, VWCE.DE, BTC Quantity 10 Price per unit 182.50 Date 2025-03-14 Buy / sell (optional) buy, sell Fees (optional) 1.00 Upload it
In Allown, open the account, press Add positions and choose Import a CSV. Pick the file.
Match the columns and review
Allown guesses which column is which; fix any it got wrong. It then matches every ticker to a listing. Check the list, correct anything unmatched, and import.
A ticker that matches the wrong market? Add the exchange the way Yahoo Finance writes it, like
VWCE.DEfor Xetra orSHEL.Lfor London.
Why it’s safe
- Nothing from the file is saved until you've checked the rows and pressed import.
- Allown doesn't connect to your broker this way: it only sees the rows in the file.
After you connect
Your holdings appear at once, valued with live prices, and their history comes from the trades in the file. A file is a snapshot: to add newer trades later, import a newer file, or connect the broker when Allown supports it.
Questions
Which date formats work?
Common ones do (2025-03-14, 14.03.2025, 03/14/2025). If dates come out wrong, Allown shows which rows it couldn't read.
My broker isn't connectable yet. Can I ask for it?
Yes: in the list of integrations, ask for the one you use. The most-requested ones are built first.
